Frequently Asked Questions

Grow the Iditarod legacy — ask away!

What is the ITRF endowment and how large is it currently?
The ITRF endowment is a permanently restricted fund designed to provide long-term financial stability for the Iditarod Trail Race. As of 2025, it stands at approximately $500,000. All contributions help grow this fund, and only the earnings (after inflation-proofing) are used annually to support the race.
Each year, the ITRF distributes endowment earnings (after adjusting for inflation) to the Iditarod Trail Committee (ITC). This sustainable income helps cover race operations, safety, and community programs — without ever touching the principal.
The Iditarod Perpetuation Fund is a legacy giving program that allows Alaskans and supporters worldwide to include the ITRF in their estate plans. You can bequeath any portion or all of your estate — ensuring the Iditarod thrives for generations.

Yes. The ITRF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. You will receive a receipt for your records.
